Do you know what denomination began on the American frontier, was made up of pioneers, immigrants, people from vastly different places who gathered at the frontier’s edge. It was of course, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
We began as a pioneer people---frontier people who saw a vision of ministry in these new edges of adventure, challenge, opportunity and need. Those pioneer spirits came together to worship, vision, share in ministry, and respond to God’s calling and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) spread like wildfire into the edges of the new frontier.
Well, amazingly, it is no different today. Our Arizona Disciple Regional Assembly will be held Oct. 24th and 25th at Saguaro Christian Church in Tucson. And for those two days, Arizona Disciples from 30 congregations will be invited to gather around the theme: “Church on the Edge: A Movement For Wholeness in a Fragmented World.
You are invited to be a part of this every two year gathering.
Alvin Jackson, renowned preacher and speaker, Pastor of Park Ave. Christian Church in New York City, former pastor of Mississippi Blvd. CC in Memphis, then the fastest growing Disciple congregation in the country will be a keynote speaker. He will be joined by Carlos Cardoza-Orlandi, author, and Professor of World Christianity at Columbia Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, who will invite us to think about what it means to be a church at the margins.
The Regional Assembly will also include:
Workshops that will provide opportunities for every attendee to find resources for your life, for leadership and for serving.
Lunchtime Sessions will provide opportunities for dialogue and sharing around a variety of topics with leaders from around the region, country and world.
Browsing dozens of displays that provide resources and information from regional and general church ministries, seminaries and colleges, bookstores and others.
A biennial opportunity to better understand and be part of the 4000 member regional church and the 750,000 members that are now part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
An invitation to be part of the decisions that will be made about our mission, ministry and witness together as the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Arizona.
A Special Banquet celebrating our Region’s 100th Anniversary! We first organized and met as a “region” in November 1908.
Come hear the story!
